Staging the Literary Translator:\u00a0Roles, Identities, Personalities,\u00a0to be held at the Centre for Translation Studies of the University of Vienna

Theme of the conference<\/strong> It is the aim of this conference to set an interdisciplinary stage to discuss\u00a0theoretical and methodological challenges that come with studying the\u00a0literary translator, bringing together diverse approaches and multiple\u00a0perspectives, such as cognitive science, sociology, psychology, creativity\u00a0studies, identity studies, gender and queer studies, etc. Contributions are\u00a0welcomed that focus on the literary translator, who, traditionally, tends to\u00a0remain in the wings, shedding new light on psychological, emotional,\u00a0physical, social, and cultural facets of the translator\u2019s persona and\u00a0identity.<\/p>\n
\nWith Translator Studies (Chesterman 2009) emerging as a new and\u00a0vibrant field within Translation Studies, the attention has moved from\u00a0product to producer and the translator has been brought into sharp focus.\u00a0The death of the author, with the assumed birth of the translator, and the\u00a0cultural, cognitive, creative, and sociological turns within the discipline\u00a0have acted as strong catalysts for this new interest in the translator. So\u00a0far, researchers have been particularly interested in the translator\u2019s\u00a0habitus, in translatorial cognition, in the translator\u2019s cultural and historical\u00a0rootedness, but few attempts have yet been made to integrate the\u00a0different perspectives.<\/p>\n
