Since Clayton Christensen\u2019s seminal book Innovator’s Dilemma showed how a small-scale but innovative digital technology can overthrow large established businesses overnight, the idea of digital disruption has been causing both excitement and concern in businesses worldwide, from financial and legal services to entertainment distribution and the taxi industry. The world of translation is not immune to such upheavals and the notion of digital disruption is useful for understanding changes in translation practice.<\/p>\n
This conference aims to consider the disruptive power of translation across a wide range of digital technologies: machine translation, CAT tools, crowdsourcing, social media, mobile devices, speech recognition, remote interpreting, VLEs and MOOCs (for education).<\/p>\n

\nPromotion of minority cultures and humanitarian causes using translation technologies

\nTranslator as prosumer
\nEconomy of digital disruption in translation
\nInfluence of translation technologies to language learning
\nInnovative use of technologies in translation education
\nWe welcome proposals from postgraduate students, early career and more established researchers, translators and other industry professionals.<\/p>\n
Please send enquiries and proposals of around 200 words for 60-minute practical workshops and 20-minute research papers related to the topic to translation@port.ac.uk by 15 June 2017.<\/p>\n
Presentations which will stimulate dialogues between different disciplines such as Translation Studies, Computer Science, Computational Linguistics, Sociology, Anthropology, Cultural Studies and Economics are invited.<\/p>\n
