Economic-Commercial Translation: English – Galician – English / English – Spanish - English

(Prof.ª Patricia Buján Otero)

The aim of this subject is to address and extend the knowledge acquired during previous studies, as well as to familiarise students with the specific language, structures, documentation, and procedures involved in economic-commercial activities, with particular focus on the British and Spanish legal systems.

In the introduction, we will investigate the main trade flows from Spain to English-speaking countries. Next, we will work on the concept of textual genre and all the most relevant aspects of this specialisation, from the main morphosyntactic and phraseological structures to the most common export and internationalisation procedures, as well as the specialised press and the publishing sector. The aim is to enhance the translating skills, not only to be able to confidently tackle the translation of complex specialised texts, but also for the professional future.

We will mainly practice translations to Galician/Spanish, although we will also include some reverse translation activities.
