Postgraduate Teaching Assistant
Valentina Marta-Rodríguez holds a PhD in Translation from the University of Vigo (2015) and she is a sworn French interpreter accredited by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Cooperation (2009). For 17 years, she combined her work as a freelance translator with positions as a temporary and adjunct lecturer in translation at the same university.
She obtained her bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting (UVigo) in 2008, and since then she works on translation (French and English) and proofreading (Galician and Spanish), particularly in the medical field. She has worked as a translator and reviewer for highly prestigious pharmaceutical companies, notably serving as a linguistic consultant for the Sanofi-Aventis group.
In 2024, her professional career led to her receiving the Alumni Excellence Award in the humanitarian field.
She is a full member of Tremédica, the international association of translators and writers in medicine and related sciences.
She has been a lecturer at the University of Vigo since 2011. She has taught both in the former bachelor’s degree and in the current degree in Translation and Interpreting. Since 2025, she is Assistant Lecturer. She also teaches in the master’s degree in Translation for International Communication —that has been awarded the mention of excellence by the Xunta de Galicia- and in the Doctoral Program in Translation & Paratranslation.
Her current research areas include medical text genres, the use of graphic novels and comics as teaching and educational materials, and gender studies through the history of translation.
