Patricia Buján Otero has a PhD in Translation from the Universidade de Vigo, where she combines her work as translator (traducion.gal) and editor (Catro Ventos) with her activities as teaching fellow. She obtained her PhD in 2015 with the dissertation La traducción de la fraseología en el género textual manual de instrucciones en la combinación lingüística alemán-español.

Patricia Buján obtained her bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting (UVigo) in 1998, and since then she works on translation (German, English and Spanish) and proofreading (Galician and Spanish), particularly in the fields of technology, art, advertising and editing. She has translated, among other authors, Byung-Chul Han, Rachel Carson, Hans Fallada and Albert Einstein. Her most recent translations are Heidi (Johanna Spyri, Aira das Letras, 2021) or The perfume (Patrick Süskind, Kalandraka, 2021).

Member of AGPTI (Galician Association of Translation and Interpreting Professionals), which she chaired from 2012 to 2016, AGX (Asociación Galega de Xermanistas) and ACEtt.

EXPERIENCE AS TEACHER

As teaching fellow at the UVigo, since 2019 (and previously from 2007 to 2013) she teaches several English and German translation subjects in the bachelor’s degree in Translation and Interpreting, in the master’s degree in Translation for International Communication and in the doctoral program Translation & Paratranslation at the Universidade de Vigo. Alongside professor Ana Luna, she also coordinates the university-accredited qualification of Specialist in Editing (“The book industry: design, execute and solve editorial projects”) which has been launched for the academic year 2023-2024. Additionally, since the academic year 2022-2023 she is a guest lecturer in the master’s degree in Cultural Services at USC, where she teaches the subject “The Galician editorial sector: politics, market, agents and processes”.

LINES OF RESEARCH

Her current line of research focuses particularly on editorial politics, specializing in translation and critical editing, work she has developed for the BiFeGa research group of the Universidade de Vigo within the line of Bitraga (Biblioteca de Traducción Gallega). She also follows two other lines of research that she developed in the past, namely, phraseology (both general and specialised) and quality management in technical and editorial translation.
